As a male treating a women's health issue

The reason I started researching hormonal imbalance was because of my studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). I quickly realized how many women suffer from it—often without knowing they have an issue. One of the most eye-opening moments for me was when my direct senior fainted in front of me due to severe menstrual pain. We had to care for her while patients were still waiting outside the clinic. It was a stark reminder that women’s health issues are often overlooked or misunderstood.
Too often, people—especially men but even some women—fail to grasp the severity of conditions like extreme menstrual pain. Some dismiss it as "just period cramps," without realizing how debilitating it can be.
Since then, I have been dedicated to researching and finding ways to better support women’s health through TCM. What happened to my senior is not an isolated case—many women silently endure similar, if not worse, conditions.
Unfortunately, many are unaware that TCM offers effective solutions.
What surprises me most is how many women don’t realize their symptoms are abnormal. I once had a patient who believed having a period only twice a year was "normal" because she had been told so. I’m not sure who misinformed her, but moments like these reinforce that education is a vital part of my role.
Knowing what is within the range of that's acceptable and what warrants further investigation is essential. Of course, if someone is naturally predisposed to having infrequent periods, that’s one thing. But if a previously regular cycle suddenly becomes irregular or significantly decreases in frequency, it’s a sign that something needs attention.
I feel grateful to be on this path, using my knowledge and skills to help others. Sometimes, I hear patients say, "It feels weird to have a regular period again after so long," and while it may take adjustment, I’m glad to be part of their healing journey.
To those I am unable to help, I sincerely wish there were more I could do. But to those I have had the privilege to support—I want to say that if you hadn’t taken the step to seek help, I wouldn’t have had the chance to assist you. The first step to healing is always in your hands, and I am truly thankful for the trust you place in me.
